Ivana Blanco Gross is an American post-minimalist conceptual artist born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied at the University of Buenos Aires and at the Royal Academy of Art in The Netherlands. Her works explores the different perceptions of location across geographical space, translating her own connections to people and place into color works and installations. She uses different media to express content, such as paint, text, photography, object development, installations, video, and sound. Her latest projects are based on the deterioration of the Arctic and the environmental impact of the new Silk Road Initiative. Dr Gross lectures in universities and colleges as well as congresses and conferences.
Land, Landscape, and Territory
At the foundation of my artistic practice lies the exploration of diverse perceptions of location across the geographical expanse. My endeavor involves translating my connections with the people and the land into vibrant color works and multi-sensory installations. Specifically, I emphasize the concept of location and its relevance to the land through the interplay of line, color, sound, and geography.
Over the past eighteen months, I have been engaged in a project entitled “Circular Sound.” This project delves into the deterioration of the Arctic Circle, the surrounding areas of northern Canada, Alaska, Greenland and Scandinavia, and its profound impact on the overall well-being of the planet. It comprises a sound, photographic, and video installation that commenced during an artist residency in Finland.
During my upcoming residency, I intend to record the environmental sounds of the area, locate and photograph the surroundings, and potentially create a series of drawings and sketches that will serve as the foundation for the final outcome of the residency.
I would welcome the opportunity to interact with the local community, contribute to an open workshop on personal map creation and/or present my work and the process I follow as I develop ideas.
