Carola Björk’s works can be understood as visual consequences of encounters with her surroundings. Her artistic practice is grounded in the realities of everyday life, where materials, spatial contexts, and people’s stories capture her attention and become investigations into approaches to the Other — where the encounter itself opens the possibility for something new. It is a practice that functions as a form of knowledge-making in its own right, allowing her to explore a deeper understanding of human relational existence. Through varied expressions such as photography, text, sculpture, painting, and installations, she examines the phenomenon of the encounter. What does it mean to touch and to be touched? These are the questions her works pose.
Carola Björk (b. 1979) grew up in and currently lives in Stockholm. She holds an MFA from Konstfack (2019) and a BA in Philosophy from Södertörn University (2020), with a focus on existential phenomenology
