Wallander moves between different artistic expressions. In Hjärtat she works in the borderland between theatre and visual art, exploring who we become after a crisis. It is a practice that demands precision, courage, and reflection. It balances between the personal and the societal, and perhaps also a search for meaning and belonging.
Wallander exhibits as a visual artist and takes on various assignments within theatre, film, and music.
“I examine my so‑called crises — violence, sexuality, divorce, death, passion, war, illness, natural disaster, pandemic, falling in love, escape, childbirth, deep love, great humour, pleasure, spiritual ecstasy, tenderness, stillness. And also some ordinary, banal observations, life as it passes — buses, fish sticks, laundry.
What I have come to understand is that the reaction is roughly the same, whether the crisis is positive or negative. What we cannot handle becomes unreachable to us, and through these crises we become more whole. Perhaps this is also true collectively — that clarity can be reached through crisis.
I wrote about this during a month in Paris, where I exposed myself to a great deal of solitude and a great deal of art, avoiding most ordinary social contact with family and friends.
The idea is to present this attempt in a room (Teater Giljotin, 17–18 October 2020) and see what happens in the encounter with a small audience. What is communicated?
What I need to produce at BKN are the sketches, certain texts, and to mend the embryos.”
Det jag behöver producera på BKN är skisserna, vissa texter, laga fostren.”
