BKN is a non-profit organization, a node for contemporary art. Our studios are in use year round.

The artists come from near and far. BKN is a resource and public forum to explore and experiment.

The treasurer and the chair each have individual signing authority for the association.

The association is responsible for the premises and rents them from Norrtälje Municipality. It is led by the board together with a curator and operates through working groups. Most of the work is voluntary.
The association actively works with a democratic approach, with particular emphasis on freedom of expression and participation. This is embedded in our public program, course activities, and organizational work.

On Björkö, BKN collaborates with local associations, which serve as a resource for knowledge about the island’s contemporary life and history. Together, we make the island more dynamic and vibrant.
Membership fee: 100 SEK per calendar year. Membership is open to anyone who wants to support the association in maintaining its core activities — namely, the studio facilities at the former Björkö-Arholma school.
Support the work — you are welcome to become a member even if you are not an artist yourself.
